Shop around with these tools to save money on health care and medicines.

It’s important to shop around before you schedule an appointment or get a prescription filled. That way, you can plan for your share of the cost, if any. You can also save money for you and the plan — and when the plan saves money, it can help keep premiums lower.

Fortunately, on Aetna.com, you’re able to see estimated costs before you make your appointment. You can also see how much of the deductible you’ve met, plus any copays, coinsurance and plan limits that may apply.

Compare costs for health services

You’ll be able to see a list of hospitals and facilities in your area and their cost estimates for a particular procedure, such as colonoscopies, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans, heart procedures, maternity care and more.

You can also compare average costs for in-network and out-of-network services. You usually pay less for care when you visit doctors and other health care providers in the Aetna network. That’s because network providers have agreed to offer their services at a lower cost to our members.

Find out what you’ll pay for your prescriptions ahead of time. You can also:

  • Compare the costs of generic drugs and brand-name drugs
  • Compare the costs at a retail pharmacy with those from the mail order service
  • Find lower-cost alternatives to your prescription drugs
  • Learn more about your drug, including how to take it and what side effects may happen
  • See if there are coverage limitations for certain drugs
