One way to stay on top of your health is to know your numbers by completing a biometric screening. This screening helps your health care team assess your risk of metabolic syndrome — a series of risk factors that can set the stage for heart disease, stroke and diabetes. It also allows you to take steps early on, using resources and programs included in your health benefits to improve your numbers and reduce your risks.

Completing the screening can earn you and your covered spouse $150 in rewards through the Health Incentives Program. The screening is at no cost to you when you go to a Quest Diagnostics lab.

All information in the assessment and the results report is personal and confidential, as protected by federal law. The DoD NAF will not have access to your individual results.

Note: Aetna® Medicare Advantage with Prescription Drug Plan members aren’t eligible for the free biometric screening or the Health Incentives Program.

Risk factors of metabolic syndrome

Metabolic syndrome is the term used when a person has three or more of these risk factors:

  • Blood pressure — 130/85 mmHg or higher*
  • Blood sugar (glucose) — 100 mg/dL or higher
  • Triglycerides — 150 mg/dL or higher
  • Waist measurement — 35+ inches (women) or 40+ inches (men)
  • HDL cholesterol — below 50 mg/dL (women) or below 40 mg/dL (men)

*If either number is out of range, the reading is considered a risk factor.

The biometric screening will take about 15 minutes from check-in to completion. It includes biometric measurements (height, weight, body mass index and blood pressure measurements) and a simple blood draw.

3 ways to complete your biometric screening

U.S. employees and retirees have three ways to complete this screening. Overseas employees and retirees must complete the screening with their doctor. All options require you to register with Quest Diagnostics ahead of time.

Register with Quest Diagnostics

Follow these instructions to get started.

Prepare for your screening
  • Remember to fast. Don’t have any food or drinks except water in the 9 to 12 hours before your appointment, unless advised otherwise by your physician.
  • If you’re unable to fast, advise a lab staff member beforehand.
  • Drink plenty of water before the blood test.
  • Take all medications according to your regular schedule.
View your results

You’ll receive an email when your online results are ready, typically within three business days. U.S. members also receive printed results in the mail 2 to 3 weeks after the screening. Keep your results handy so you can include them when you complete your online health assessment.

Reduce your risks — we can help!

You can reduce and even reverse all five metabolic syndrome risk factors with lifestyle choices, such as eating better, exercising more and not smoking. You’re never too old — or too young — to start working on better health.
