Traditional Choice Indemnity Plan options are for those living in the U.S. They give you the freedom to get care from any licensed provider, and they pay the same level of benefits, no matter which provider you choose.

To find out which plans are available to you, use the ZIP code tool or ALEX, your interactive benefits counselor.

Key points
  • Choose any provider: You don’t have to stay within a certain network. The plan pays the same level of benefits, no matter which provider you choose.
  • Members pay first, then submit claims: You pay for the cost of care up front. Then you complete and submit a claim form to Aetna to be reimbursed for covered expenses.
  • Deductible and coinsurance: Once you meet the annual deductible, the plan typically pays a percentage of the expense (usually 80%) based on recognized charges. You pay the balance (usually 20%). This is called coinsurance.
  • Pharmacy benefits: This plan includes comprehensive prescription drug coverage.
  • Vision and hearing benefits: This plan includes glasses, hearing aids, eye care and more. Find details in the plan summary documents below.
  • Preventive care: Preventive care services are covered at 100%.
  • Available as an HDHP: This plan is available as a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) or as a non-HDHP health plan.

HDHP with Aetna Traditional Choice Indemnity Plan

As the name says, an HDHP has a higher deductible — but you’ll pay a lower premium. That means you’ll have less taken out of your paycheck each pay period. The HDHP plan with the Traditional Choice plan offers access to the same providers, services and program features as the non-HDHP version of the plan.

With an HDHP plan you’ll:

  • Pay up to 23% less per year on premiums
  • Get up to $1,000 in a Health Savings Account (HSA) from your NAF employer to help pay deductibles and other health care expenses.
  • Pay $0 in copays (except for getting non-emergency care at an emergency room)

Learn why you should consider an HDHP.

Aetna Traditional Choice Indemnity Plan

The Traditional Choice plan makes it easy to get the quality health care services you and your family need.

With a non-HDHP plan like this one, you’ll:
  • Pay more in premiums each pay period than you would with the HDHP
  • Have a lower deductible, so plan coverage will start sooner
  • Have copays for pharmacy services only
